You can contact your child’s Abbey Manager or the SENCO, Ms Hadley to arrange a meeting to discuss your concerns.
Depending on the level of your child’s need there will be a level of support put in place ranging from differentiated work, small group intervention sessions or 1:1 support. This will always include your child’s class teachers but may also involve other support staff including the learning mentor.
Your child will be set in groups according to their ability. They will have access to the National Curriculum with differentiated work where appropriate.
In addition to normal reporting arrangements, you are encouraged to have open communication with your child’s form tutor, (who they see on a daily basis.) We also encourage parents/carers to contact the Abbey Leader or SENCO to discuss progress and provision if any concerns arise.
We have a very strong pastoral system in place at Abbey Grange Academy. Your child will have access to The Child Protection Team, Learning Mentors, Learning Support Assistants, Inclusion Support Staff, Safer Schools Officer and the School Nurse.
We have access to many other services, for example Educational Psychologists, Inclusion Workers, Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapists, Visually Impaired Team, Hearing Impaired Team, Counsellors, Careers Advisors, Targeted Services.
Our support staff have ongoing training in many areas such as numeracy and literacy, restraint, slt and most are level 2 TA qualified.
Your child will be offered a variety of activities during lunch time and after school. We also have educational visits and Rewards Days. Your child will have access to the same support they would normally receive.
There are lifts to some areas of school. Stairs have hand rails and luminous lines
We begin transition arrangements in Year 5 and Year 6. This involves our staff visiting your child in their primary school and inviting your child to visit our school as many times as required. We begin transition arrangements in Year 9 to prepare students for their post 16 options.
Any student who requires extra support will receive some funding from the school’s notional budget. Extra top up funding can be applied for through the local authority (by school) The review panel at the local authority will decide on whether applications warrant extra funding and the amount needed.
You will receive twice yearly progress reports and will be invited to Parent Consultation Evenings and moving on evenings throughout the year. You can also speak to your child’s Abbey Progress Leader at any point in between.
